COLORADO SPRINGS MAN ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO TRADE MARIJUANA ON CRAIGSLIST
Teller County, CO, July 10, 2018– On July 8th, a 17 year-old Teller County resident was approached by a person who wanted to trade marijuana for the dirt bike that he had advertised for sale on Craigslist. The boy promptly notified his father, Sheriff Jason Mikesell, about the offer. Teller County narcotics detectives began investigating the case and arranged a location to exchange the dirt bike for the marijuana.
Yesterday, July 9th, a buy/bust operation was conducted by undercover investigators, deputies, and officers from TCSO and the Woodland Park Police Department. The potential buyer, Stephen Huber DOB 10/11/1992 was taken into custody after he handed over 8.53 ounces of marijuana to an undercover detective whom he believed was a juvenile.
Huber is being held at the Teller County Jail on charges of Offenses Related to Marijuana, in this case, a class two drug felony due to the allegation of selling to someone whom he thought was a minor. His bond is $10,000.00.
Although marijuana is legal to possess in the State of Colorado, this serves as a reminder that illegal distribution to juveniles is against the law and carries heavy penalties.
Ironically, on November 28, 2017, Sheriff Mikesell himself was offered marijuana for a vehicle for sale on Craigslist. Following a narcotics investigation and buy/bust operation, Shawn Langley, a 39 year-old from Vail, CO and Jane Cravens were arrested and charged with felony drug distribution after bringing four pounds of marijuana to Teller County to trade for the vehicle. Their case is still pending in the Fourth Judicial District.
