DEPUTY’S VEHICLE RAMMED IN UNPROVOKED INCIDENT LEADING TO PURSUIT AND ARREST OF ARMED SUSPECT
Teller County, CO, June 22, 2021– Yesterday, at about 1135 pm, a Teller County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was on routine patrol in Woodland Park on Highway 24 when he observed a black sedan, later determined to have been stolen out of Colorado Springs, traveling in front of him make a looping turn in an open intersection and accelerate into the back of his patrol vehicle disabling it. The suspect, later identified as Robert Anthony Leon, fled the scene, the vehicle was later located at the Ute Chief Trailer Park in Woodland Park abandoned. Woodland Park Officers observed the suspect on top of a trailer then jumping off entering another vehicle and fled from Teller County Deputies, Colorado State Patrol, and Woodland Park Police units in pursuit.
With the assistance of the Colorado State Patrol and Woodland Park Police the vehicle was stopped and boxed in on Highway 24 Eastbound at Crystola where the suspect fought with deputies inside the vehicle. During the struggle deputies recovered a stolen firearm from under the suspect’s legs prior to deputies removing him from the vehicle and placing him into custody.
The deputy whose vehicle was rammed was treated and released from Pikes Peak Regional Hospital with minimal injuries, the deputies and suspect who received minor injuries from the struggle were treated on the scene.

Leon was booked into the Teller County Jail on the following charges with a $250,000 bond:
Assault 2nd Degree, three counts (Felony 4)
Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender (Felony 5)
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, two counts (Felony 4)
Vehicular Eluding (Felony 5)
Criminal Mischief, two counts (Felony 5)
DUI (Misdemeanor 1)
Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor 2)
Obstructing a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor 2)
Drove Vehicle without License (Traffic Misdemeanor 2)
Failed to Remain on Scene after Accident Involving Injury (Misdemeanor 1)
Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor 2)
